Abstract: In the conventional image retrieval, the user has performed the retrieval by using linguistic keywords. However, it is difficult to use this method in the image retrieval treating the user's subjectivity like the impression received from images. Recently, as one of the method treating the user's subjectivity, the interactive genetic algorithms is researched. In this paper, we propose the image retrieval system using the interactive genetic algorithms in the retrieval treating the personal subjectivity. Using the combination of the artificial selection used in the conventional interactive genetic algorithms and natural selection, the number of the branch from a certain generation could be increased. Moreover, the use of the retrieval history can give the user the effective retrieval without performing the complex evaluation of the presented images. We evaluate the system through the experiment using the subjects. In addition, we compare the proposed system with the system using the conventional interactive genetic algorithms which decides the parents by using artificial selection.
