Abstract: The purpose of this study was to show the technical characteristics of each phase of the reception with the leg in volleyball and clarifies the present condition of the reception using the leg in the game of the physical education class and the consciousness of the learner. And this study examined the application of official rules that allowed leg use in games. As a result of the technical analysis of the reception with the leg, the upper body tilted backward in the preparatory phase. In the main phase, the upper body was further tilted back, and the ball was in contact while stretching the leg. Through these actions, it was thought that the return a ball momentum of reception with the leg had become stronger than the underhand reception. As a result of the questionnaire survey, many subjects recognized that using the leg was permitted as a rule, and it became clear that about half of the subjects had experience of using legs on the receiving of the ball. And, in the case of necessity for dive in the reception, many subjects acknowledged using the leg for the reception. However, in the case of reachable that putting out one step ahead of the ball, there were few subjects that acknowledged the use of the leg for the reception. The issues of using the legs of the reception were“inaccurate return a ball”and“risk of injury from contact with the return a ball of strong momentum and legs”. From the above, rather than simply applying official rules for the game in physical education classes, physical education teachers need to examine considering rule modifications according to the actual situation of learners.
