| Abstract: | The purpose of this paper is to consider the relation between historical science and tropics in the 19th century from a viewpoint of Observation concept in sociology. The analysis target in detail is “Meta-history” (1973) by Hayden White. In the Book he insisted that description of history was prescribed by rhetoric, concretely four tropics — metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche and irony. This research inspects the validity of this proposition. In the case, relations with sociological system theory are also considered. Key words are observation level, tropics, social systems, and history consciousness. |
