| Abstract: | 北海道大学天塩研究林では、独立行政法人国立環境研究所地球環境研究センター、北海道電力株式会社との共同研究として、森林による二酸化炭素吸収能に関する研究プロジェクトに取り組んでいる。このプロジェクトの概要とこれまでの経緯については北條ほか（2001,2002）を参考にしていただきたい。本プロジェクトの主目的は、カラマツ林の育林過程における集水域レベルの炭素循環モニタリングであるが、さらに次のようなサブプロジェクトが立ち上がっている。 ・ 森林の炭素蓄積量評価 ・ 異なる育林方法における炭素固定機能の評価 ・ 流域スケールの水・物質循環 ・ 広域炭素収支の評価 このうちの森林の炭素蓄積量評価に関連して、天塩研究林では2001年8月に、研究林の森林を構成する主要樹種のひとつであるミズナラについて立木全体のバイオマスを調査した。今回の調査は、胸高直径にして最大55cmに達する成木を伐採し、地下部はパワーショベルで掘り上げるという、従来の立木バイオマス調査では例を見ないほどの大規模なものであり、天塩研究林のスタッフにとっても初めての試みであった。そこで本稿では、今回のバイオマス調査の実施状況について報告する。 |
