Abstract: The mesoparasitic copepod, Cardiodectes medusaeus (Wilson, 1908)(Siphonostomatoida: Pennellidae) is recorded based on a single ovigerous female specimen from the pearly lanternfish, Myctophum nitidulum Garman (Myctophiformes: Myctophidae) stranded on the sandy beach of Hamahiga-jima Island, adjacent to Okinawa Island, central Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan. This represents the first record of C. medusaeus from the Ryukyu Islands. Myctophum nitidulum is a newly recorded host for C. medusaeus.
