Abstract: Focusing on the effect of using part-time jobs to understand the abilities of job applicants (from the perspective of companies) and the actual situation of companies (from the perspective of students), this study conducted a questionnaire survey of university seniors who had already decided on a place of employment. While the results showed that (1) many university students had part-time jobs, only 4.9% of them intended to get a job at their part-time workplace, which is less than the percentage of students who obtain employment at their internship. (2) Students who plan to work at their part-time job are more likely to work in education or sales than those in other jobs and are somewhat more closely related to their college majors and their job prospects. Monetary causes were the most common reasons for taking up part-time jobs but students who planned to work at their part-time jobs also tended to place more importance on work and experience. (3) Among other findings, satisfaction with job search and the company where they found employment was lower among students who planned to work at a part-time job than among those who did not.
