Abstract: Although NaInS2 and its isostructural NaInSe2 have been known for more than half a century, these solid solutions have not been investigated. In this work, three layered chalcogenides, NaInS1.5Se0.5, NaInSSe, and NaInS0.5Se1.5 were synthesized by ball milling and subsequent heating. In-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction showed that these three chalcogenides were isostructural with NaInS2/NaInSe2 above 550 K, and were stable below 820 K. The mixed occupancy of S and Se were confirmed by Rietveld refinements; the band gap of NaInSSe was estimated to be 2.31 eV by its optical absorption.
