| Abstract: | This paper theoretically approaches the process of historical change in South Korea's ban on Japanese popular culture. By examining “the collective emotional ambivalence” with concepts of “censorship,” “collective (un)conscious,” and “disavowal,” this paper investigates the shaping process of “the post-colonial subject” who both denies and desires the other's culture. All this argues that the subject possessing a collective conscience and emotion toward the other is cultural production through the development process of the mass media, the arena for the struggles and contradictions of complicated conditions responsible for constructing the globally, nationally, and locally penetrating concept of the “nation.” |
