Abstract: 本稿では,南大洋における生態系研究の現状と課題を整理した.南大洋の生態系を論じるうえで最も重要な種はナンキョクオキアミであるが,近年ハダカイワシ科魚類が注目されている.日本の生態系研究チームはハダカイワシ科の中でも季節海氷域に分布するElectrona antarctica(ナンキョクダルマハダカ)をターゲットのひとつとして研究しているが,その繁殖生態や初期生活史については未解明の部分が大きい.季節海氷域では海氷に含まれるアイスアルジーや海氷融解時におこる植物プランクトンの大増殖を起点に始まる食物網が存在する.海氷と海氷下の生態系は密接な関係があり,温暖化による海氷変動は生態系変動をもたらすことになる.
This paper reviewed research issues on the Southern Ocean (SO) ecosystem and proposed a vision for them. While the most important species to be addressed for understanding the ecosystem is Antarctic krill Euphausia superba, research articles on the myctophid (lanternfish) ecology in the SO have been frequently published in the last decade. Japanese research team determines Antarctic myctophid fish Electrona antarctica as a target species. However, only fragments of information have been available on the reproductive biology and early life history in the species. In the marginal ice zone, there is an energy pathway originating from ice algae as well as from phytoplankton bloom found near the ice edge in the ice melting season. Change in sea ice dynamics with climate changes is most likely to affect the ecosystem in the water column under sea ice.
