Abstract:	熱帯諸国において「参加型保全」は、中央集権的で一元的な保全に代わる手法として注目を集めた。しかし、保全を進める「よそ者」と地域住民との非対称的な力関係を背景に、参加型保全の取り組みにおいても、しばしば、ローカルな文脈に埋め込まれた複雑で多面的な人と自然とのかかわりあいは、過度に単純化され、不適切な形で表象されてきた。本論文では、そうした表象に基づいて立案・実施された生物資源を対象とする保全施策(希少種の保護や生物多様性保全)が、ローカルな文脈に埋め込まれていた複雑で多面的な「人と自然とのかかわりあい」をより制御しやすい形に一元化・規格化し、再編成していく作用を「保全におけるシンプリフィケーション」と呼んでその具体例を挙げ、それが地域の人びとにどのような受苦を強いる可能性があるかを論じる。そして、人びとに受苦を強いることのない社会的に公正な保全を実現するために、保全にかかわる外部者には「深い地域理解」が求められることを指摘した。
