Abstract: 四季が存在する温帯地域では,季節の変化に伴って大きな環境変動が起きる.温帯に生息する動物はやがて訪れる冬季の環境を乗り越えるために,様々な生理機能や行動を秋から冬にかけて変化させるが,その分子機構の多くは謎に包まれている.本稿では,季節適応の研究において優れたモデルであるメダカに対して,オミクス解析やケミカルゲノミクス,ゲノム編集などの様々なアプローチを適用することで明らかとなってきた脊椎動物の冬季適応戦略について紹介する.また,メダカで明らかとなったメカニズムについてヒトとの共通点やヒトへの応用についても議論する.
In temperate climate, various ecosystem components show dynamic seasonal changes, for example, animals change their physiology and behavior from autumn to winter to cope with the oncoming winter. However, their underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly elucidated. In this paper, we introduce winter adaptation strategies of vertebrates that have been revealed by integrating various approaches such as multi-omics analysis, chemical genomics, and genome editing to medaka fish (Oryzias latipes), an ideal model for studying seasonal adaptation. We also discuss similarities between medaka and humans as well as possible applications of our findings to human health.
