| Abstract: | There is increasing pressure on Japanese universities and research institutions to actively promote their research outcomes to global audiences. One factor driving this phenomenon is increasing global competition among states and organizations for highly-qualified individuals. The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) has set itself the task of becoming a“ world-leading center of knowledge” and there is an awareness within the university of the need to reach a wider audience both domestically and globally to achieve this objective. The university’s Public Relations Office established “UTokyo Research” in 2010 to promote the university’s research domestically and internationally and to nurture personnel able to support the dissemination of research outcomes. This paper introduces the origin and development of UTokyo Research and the efforts of the university’s Public Relations Office to promote research outcomes in English to a global audience. |
