Cover Figure
Differentiating osteoblast-like cells in POS canine osteosarcoma cell line. Osteoblasts are primary bone forming cells in osteogenesis. At the fracture site, migrated pre-osteoblasts are activated by enhanced osteogenic signals and proliferate with differentiation into functional osteoblasts that can mineralize bone matrix. Because alkaline phosphatase is an early marker of differentiation of osteoblasts, its high expression at osteogenic milieu means commencement of osteogenic activity by osteoblasts. In this photograph, gradual increase of alkaline phosphatase expression in osteoblast-like cells is observed by different saturation of blue color stained by alkaline phosphatase staining.
