Oocyte-cumulus-granulosa complexes (OCGCs) before (a) and after in vitro growth culture (b, c, and d). The OCGC (a) has an oocyte surrounded by a cumulus investment (white arrowhead) and attached mural granulosa-cell layer (black arrowhead). Surviving OCGCs after 12 days of culture were surrounded by granulosa-cell layers without (b) or with antrum formation (d: white arrow and arrowheads indicate an oocyte and antra, respectively). A dead OCGC (c) had a degenerated oocyte and granulosa cells had dispersed from an oocyte.
